Brian Holt funds town disco as part of its happy healthy kids campaign

17/12/2007

A Kenilworth estate agency is to give town teenagers a bopping good Christmas – as part of its wider campaign to help youngsters exercise more and lead healthier, more fulfilling lives!
Brian Holt is sponsoring a six DJ festive disco for up to fifty 13 to 16-year-olds at the town’s new youth club in the Abbey End car park on Wednesday December 19 from 7 – 9pm.
The evening is the latest in a series of community initiatives dreamed up by the agency whose staff are keen to promote healthy minds and bodies by providing children in the district with entertaining, enjoyable and worthwhile activities in sport, leisure and education.
The disco was the idea of lettings manager Mark Walmsley who feels the town’s new youth club has plenty of unfilled potential for a wider range of activities than it has been able to offer because it simply does not have enough funding.
“This is one of only two new purpose built youth and community centres to be built in the county for 30 years. It now opens four nights a week, while its predecessor in Bertie Road was only open for two.
“But although the building and staffing costs are generously funded by the county council it relies on one-off grants from a variety of bodies for its activities – and unfortunately that is not a limitless pot of cash. It seemed such a shame that this wonderful facility was lying empty for a lot of the time that we wanted to find a way of opening it up more and giving our young people something fun to do.”
District youth and community worker Andy Norman, who runs the Kenilworth youth club, said: “Funding from organisations like Brian Holt is vital to provide a wider range of activities for our members than our current funding allows. It’s great that they want to help the young people.”
The Brian Holt funding will pay for six DJs – talented members of the club - to play on the night, along with the costs of staffing the event and food and drink for the teenagers.
As part of its healthy happy kids campaign Brian Holt is also funding new books for Priors Field School library and sponsoring a year long schools initiative with Leamington Rugby Club aimed at helping youngsters exercise more.
Kenilworth manager Julie Philpot added: “Our key aim with all these schemes is to enable children to live healthier, more fulfilling lives. The Christmas disco will give our town’s young people the chance to have fun, meet their friends and perhaps make new ones and hopefully get fit with all that dancing too.
“We receive a lot of support from people in the town and like to put something back.”
